To make sure your smile stays protected against the risk of tooth decay, dental erosion, and any other forms of damage, make sure you understand tooth hazard risks in your life that could cause these forms of damage. Often, a failure to appropriately clean out your mouth can lead to microscopic damage. Furthermore, exercise caution with day-to-day activities and chores that you may have in your everyday life. To keep your smile safe from oral accidents and tooth hazards that can produce them, be aware of some of the common oral health risks.

Keeping your smile safe includes being aware of the risks associated with not wearing effective safety equipment. If you fail to use proper safety gear such as mouth guards or face masks, you can leave your smile open to vulnerabilities associated with oral accidents and injuries. If you’re involved in any contact sports, even a single strike or blow to the face can damage your smile and leave you with decades of repairs in your future. Rather than having your smile destroyed in seconds, always take the time to add an additional layer of protection with the use of mouth guards.

One tooth hazard risk that many individuals are often faced with is due to biting into hard products. Although teeth do seem to be strong, they are not designed to bite into hard products. If you try to bite into hard products such as cough drops, they can easily chip and crack your teeth. Even if you were able to bite through them as a youngster, your smile might have weakened over time and is no longer effective for biting into these substances.

Are there any remaining questions you have about tooth hazards? To improve your smile with tooth hazard prevention and care, you are welcome to schedule a visit to our dentist in Midvale, Utah. Dr. Chad S. Burt and our team at K B Dentistry look forward to taking your smile into the future. To contact us, please call our dental office at 801-255-3578.

If you want a top-notch oral health, fluoride can help you. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can be found in toothpaste, mouthwash, tap water, and professional fluoride treatments. It’s best to expose your teeth to fluoride regularly. This is because fluoride can greatly benefit your smile. In fact, it can:

-Strengthen your smile: Fluoride soaks into the tooth enamel and makes it a strong, resilient shell. This increases the chances of having an all-around healthy smile because they shell is tough to destroy.

-Help you avoid cavities: Because the shell is tough to destroy, the bacteria and plaque in your mouth have a hard time creating cavities. This means you can prevent tooth decay if you expose your teeth to fluoride regularly.

-Help you avoid erosion and tooth cracks: Because fluoride makes the enamel strong and tough, acid has a hard time wearing the enamel away and there is a reduced chance of unnatural pressure fracturing your tooth enamel.

In order to have a top-notch tooth brushing routine, you need to stay abreast the best ways to clean the smile. Because brushing is such a repetitive technique, many people daze over when they scrub, which can result in an improper brushing routine. If this is the case for you, it’s time to brush up on the brushing basics. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Chad S. Burt, is happy to give you some tips and recommendations.

First, remember to brush your teeth twice each day for two minutes each time. When you brush, don’t rush your technique. This will help you completely clean the smile. If you have a hard time remembering to brush, remind yourself with a sticky note or alarm. If you have trouble brushing for two minutes, turn on a two-minute song, YouTube video, or timer when you scrub.

Second, remember to use the proper equipment when brushing. It’s recommended to brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste that have been approved by the American Dental Association. The soft bristles will clean your teeth and care for your gums and fluoride will strengthen your smile. When your toothbrush bristles have frayed or when you have used your brush for 3-4 months, you need to replace it.

Third, remember to keep your toothbrush clean. Just rinse the bristles with warm water when you’re done brushing. Then, store the toothbrush upright so it can dry. Then, once the bristles are dry, place a toothbrush cover over the brush, but only if you desire.

For more information and details about oral hygiene in Midvale, Utah, please contact our dental team at K B Dentistry by dialing 801-255-3578. When you reach out to us, we will be thrilled to give you the answers you need to properly clean and care for your smile.

Toothaches can appear at nearly any age. They can range from very little pain to excruciating pain that makes even speaking or moving your jaw nearly impossible.

Inside of your tooth is a small area that contains nerve endings, called pulp.  A toothache is commonly caused by damage to the nerve endings contained in the pulp. A toothache can be a sign that you have a cavity, abscess, or other oral emergency.

If you have a toothache, DO NOT apply aspirin to the affected area, as that may burn your gum tissue. Instead, first carefully rinse your mouth out with warm water–not cold or hot, if it can be avoided. Then, gently use floss or another ADA-approved interdental cleaner to remove any food particles stuck between your teeth. If the pain continues, call your dentist.

If you continue to feel pain in a tooth even after taking appropriate oral pain-relieving medications, you may have damage to the pulp in your tooth. You may also have damaged the pulp if you continue to feel pain 24 hours after a tooth has been knocked out or extracted.

Not all tooth damage is strictly linked to pain; it could be more visual in nature. If you see an abscess around a tooth, your pulp may be damaged. A dental abscess often looks like an irritated pocket full of pus or fluid, and is caused by infection in the tissue. Facial rashes, high fevers, irregular chills, and noticeable discharge are all common signs and symptoms of tooth pulp damage. If you feel your pulp may be infected or damaged, speak with your dentist as soon as possible to check for possible signs of a major dental emergency.

If you would like to schedule an oral exam at K B Dentistry, simply call our dentist office in Midvale, Utah, at 801-255-3578. Dr. Chad S. Burt and our entire team look forward to making your smile shine!

Have you ever wondered what bad breath is and what causes it? Although it can often be misconstrued as smells arising from foods you eat, bad breath is often the result of bacterial odors that emanate from your mouth. Bad breath can be caused by a variety of underlying conditions including infection in your mouth, such as toothaches, or disorders that lie deeper in your body. Listed below are some basic facts about bad breath, which is also known as halitosis:

– Bad breath is typically the result of not brushing or flossing your teeth on a daily basis.
– Ailments deep within the body, including liver problems, kidney malfunctions, and respiratory tract infections, can cause bad breath.
– If you do suffer from bad breath, try taking mouthwash to see if it is simply the result of foods in your mouth, and not a deeper, underlying condition.
– Excessive plaque buildup in your mouth can be the cause of your bad breath.
– Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is often linked to cases of bad breath, as the odors are the result of infections with gum tissue.
– Dentures are a known cause of bad breath if they are not cared and cleaned for on a nightly basis.
– The medications you may be taking could contain bad breath as a typical side effect.

Dr. Chad S. Burt at K B Dentistry wants to ensure your smile shines no matter what condition it is in. If you are thinking about seeking professional halitosis treatment, please contact our dentist office in Midvale, Utah, by calling us at 801-255-3578. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Chipping a tooth can be a scary and nerve-wracking experience. However, even though it’s terrifying, it’s best to stay calm. There is no need to worry. Our K B Dentistry dental team can treat your tooth in no time. So, to begin dealing with the situation, there are a few things you should do.

First, call our office and schedule an emergency appointment with either Dr. Chad S. Burt or Dr. Kyle W. Dimond. The sooner you can get into our clinic, the better. When you come into our office, make sure to bring the pieces of your tooth with you. This means when you break your tooth, you need to save as many pieces as you can and keep them in a safe place.

Second, control the bleeding and reduce the swelling. First, control the bleeding by placing a piece of gauze pad to the area until the bleeding stops. If the bleeding fails to subside, replace the bloody pad with a new one and repeat this process until you come into our office. Second, reduce the swelling by icing outside the area for 15 minutes at a time. This should reduce the swelling as well as relieve your pain.

If you have any questions about how to deal with a chipped tooth in Midvale, Utah, or if you need help with the provided tips, please don’t be afraid to call our office at 801-255-3578 at your earliest convenience.
