If you want a top-notch oral health, fluoride can help you. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can be found in toothpaste, mouthwash, tap water, and professional fluoride treatments. It’s best to expose your teeth to fluoride regularly. This is because fluoride can greatly benefit your smile. In fact, it can:

-Strengthen your smile: Fluoride soaks into the tooth enamel and makes it a strong, resilient shell. This increases the chances of having an all-around healthy smile because they shell is tough to destroy.

-Help you avoid cavities: Because the shell is tough to destroy, the bacteria and plaque in your mouth have a hard time creating cavities. This means you can prevent tooth decay if you expose your teeth to fluoride regularly.

-Help you avoid erosion and tooth cracks: Because fluoride makes the enamel strong and tough, acid has a hard time wearing the enamel away and there is a reduced chance of unnatural pressure fracturing your tooth enamel.

Tooth sensitivity can sometimes be linked to an acidic environment developing in your mouth. It can arise from poor oral hygiene practices that allow plaque acids to build up in your mouth. This can be escalated if you frequently consume acidic beverages.

The acidic presence in your mouth can cause the microscopic pores of your tooth enamel to expand and deepen. As this starts to happen it can increasingly expose the sensitive dentin layer within the tooth.

If Dr. Chad S. Burt suspects your sensitivity problems can be attributed to compromised tooth enamel they might recommend administering a fluoride treatment. This will bolster the mineral density of your teeth to help reduce sensation in your teeth.

If they feels it’s warranted they might also provide you with a prescription for daily use fluoride supplements. This often comes in the form of a concentrated fluoride toothpaste or mouth wash. You should apply to your teeth right before you go to sleep each night or at a time when you can abstain from eating or drinking for at least half an hour.

If you live in the Midvale, Utah, area, and you have tooth sensitivity issues, you should call 801-255-3578 to explore your treatment options at K B Dentistry.
